I Just Want To Complain

It’s cold. Winter sucks. I hate the treadmill. You have a pain in your ass. The litany of negativity spewed from our consciousness is unending. I’m guilty. We all are. My little circle starts our runs with each of us stating the one thing we got going on qualifying to ruin our run. “Bad Argentine steak, I think.” “Up all night. Twins have the flu.” Our logic is to release all the self defeating negativity to the universe. If we release it, the run can proceed unhindered. But, are we really working towards a positive goal?

Negative begets negative. I rode home on the train from Chicago one evening sitting in front of a woman who endlessly, and in great detail, honored her chosen cell call victim with the greatest litany of woe I ever had the displeasure of eavesropping. It took every ounce of self control, of which I have achingly little, to not turn around, grab her phone, and yell “Quit Your Complaining!!” Furtive glances to other passengers confirmed I was not the only one. I disembarked the train in a dizzy state. My brain muddled, and contemplating my own life issues. What a buzzkill!

We are now deeply ensconced in the season of complaint. I have my defense fortified, but the negative is insidiously sneaky. I find it incredibly difficult to be positive amidst a world of negative. Negative people give you the evil eye. “What have you got to be so happy about?” I’m not necessarily oh so happy, but I choose not spread my complaints.

So I will say this one complaint only one time.

“Quit Your Complaining!! Don’t be a buzzkill!!”

Now smile and have a wonderful day!!
